Venesco, LLC is seeking a dedicated Clinical Psychologist to provide essential mental health care to military service members and their families at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. This role is crucial in supporting those who serve our country, offering a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. The Clinical Psychologist will be responsible for administering treatment programs to individuals who are mentally and emotionally disturbed, assisting rehabilitation patients, and providing support during personal crises such as divorce or the loss of a loved one. The position involves conducting thorough interviews with patients and reviewing their medical and social histories to diagnose and evaluate mental and emotional disorders. The Clinical Psychologist will also participate in clinical psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship programs, contributing to the training of future professionals in the field. This may include direct supervision of trainees, delivering educational presentations, and engaging in committee activities. Additionally, the psychologist will be involved in approved research projects as requested by the Psychology Department staff. Clinical evaluations will be a key component of this role, requiring the administration and interpretation of various psychological, neuropsychological, cognitive, and personality tests. The psychologist will also provide consultation regarding the selection of appropriate psychological assessments and may be called upon to conduct neuropsychological assessments. Effective communication with family members and significant others is essential to enhance patient treatment and progress. The Clinical Psychologist will be expected to deliver a comprehensive range of services, including child and adolescent psychology, differential diagnosis, treatment planning, and various therapeutic procedures such as individual, group, and family psychotherapy. Responsibilities

  • Administer programs of treatment to mentally and emotionally disturbed individuals.
  • Assist in treating rehabilitation patients.
  • Treat individuals in times of personal crisis such as a divorce or death of a loved one.
  • Interview patients and study medical and social case histories.
  • Diagnose and evaluate mental and emotional disorders of individuals and administer programs of treatment.
  • Participate in clinical psychology internship and postdoctoral fellowship programs as requested.
  • Perform clinical evaluations including administration and interpretation of psychological, neuropsychological, cognitive, and personality tests.
  • Communicate with family members and significant others to further the effectiveness of patient treatment and progress.
  • Provide a full range of child and adolescent clinical psychologist duties.
  • Provide consultation, differential diagnosis, and treatment planning for all disorders defined by the DSM for children, adolescents, and adult family members.
  • Provide diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including interviewing, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and psychosocial history taking.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree.
  • Graduation from an American Psychology Association accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Successful completion of an internship in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association.
  • At least two (2) years of experience as a Clinical Psychologist within the preceding three (3) years.
