About the position

Billings Clinic is seeking a Clinical RN for Risk Management. This position is responsible for coordinating the department's fiscal assets and personnel support, as well as managing risk for Billings Clinic and its affiliates, including acute care hospitals and physician clinics. The role involves developing methodologies for risk prevention, managing claims, and ensuring patient safety. The RN will also provide direction and consultation on malpractice and medical legal matters, and assist in the development of training programs for risk reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees department cost centers to ensure adherence to organizational mission, vision, values, strategic goals, and business strategies.
  • Assists in the development of methodologies for risk prevention, risk and claims management, patient safety, and process improvement.
  • Identifies and arranges for consulting assistance from internal or external sources as required.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining processes to measure customer satisfaction.
  • Collaboratively designs, coordinates, and manages an organization-wide Risk Management Plan.
  • Provides direction and consultation services to Billings Clinic staff regarding malpractice and medical legal matters.
  • Supports resolution of serious customer service complaints and grievances.
  • Maintains legal case files and ensures maximum protection from discovery.
  • Participates in the assessment and evaluation of liability insurance coverage.
  • Reviews and investigates incident and complaint reports, recommending corrective action.
  • Attends Risk Management, Patient Safety, Safety and Security, Quality, and other committees or meetings.
  • Facilitates root cause analysis (RCAs), apparent cause analysis (ACAs), and failure mode effect analysis (FME).
  • Coordinates communication between patients and department supervisors.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree.
  • Three years of relevant experience in the health care industry or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Montana state license as a registered nurse at hire.
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) within two years of employment.
