About the position

The CNC Machinist/Programmer at Horstman Inc. is a critical role that requires a skilled individual capable of working independently while ensuring that all products are manufactured according to engineering drawings, workmanship documentation, quality procedures, customer specifications, and engineering direction. This position involves programming from CAD drawings/models and necessitates a strong understanding of CNC operations and machining processes. The ideal candidate will be proficient in setting up and operating CNC programmable controls, reading and interpreting G/M code, and utilizing various measuring instruments to ensure that parts meet specified tolerances and quality standards. In this role, the CNC Machinist/Programmer will work with different metals and be actively involved in developing production processes. The position requires a commitment to safety, integrity, and compliance with company rules and regulations. The machinist will be responsible for setting up fixtures and tooling for CNC production processes, performing routine machine maintenance, and monitoring tool wear. Additionally, the role includes adjusting offsets to maintain part integrity and participating in continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing output, quality, costs, and delivery. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to hold very tight tolerances and meet production standards while running established production processes across multiple machine/control configurations. This position is essential for maintaining the high-quality standards that Horstman Inc. is known for, and it offers opportunities for cross-training and skill acquisition on various types of equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC programmable controls and read and understand G/M code.
  • Set up fixtures and tooling to run CNC production processes.
  • Ensure parts meet specifications using appropriate measuring instruments such as Micrometers, Vernier Micrometers, Height Gages, Bore Gages, etc.
  • Read blueprint drawings, job orders, tooling instructions, or standard charts to determine specification procedures.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance.
  • Monitor tool wear, change tools and inserts as required.
  • Adjust offsets to maintain part integrity.
  • Demonstrate ability to hold very tight tolerances and meet production standards.
  • Be part of continuous improvement efforts to improve output, quality, costs, and delivery.
  • Run established production processes on multiple machine/control configurations.

Requirements

  • Ability to program from CAD drawings/models.
  • Experience with CNC machining and programming.
  • Proficient in using measuring instruments such as Micrometers and Bore Gages.
  • Strong understanding of G/M code and CNC operations.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with company regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
