About the position

Mason is seeking an experienced CNC Mill Programmer to join our team in Sylmar, CA. This position is crucial for our operations as we design, manufacture, and market highly engineered products and systems primarily for the aerospace and defense sectors. The CNC Mill Programmer will be responsible for programming CNC Mills (4 & 5 axis) using Mastercam software, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are efficient and effective. The ideal candidate will possess advanced programming knowledge and a strong understanding of machining tools, including cutters and inserts. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with machinists and other team members. In this position, the CNC Mill Programmer will create CNC programs, test and modify setup procedures, and maintain NC code and CAM libraries. The programmer will also develop and optimize setup and operation documents, ensuring that all processes are documented and authorized. A key part of the role involves studying blueprints, sketches, and specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, as well as designing and selecting work holding fixtures and cutting tools. The programmer will support the prove-out process with machinists and inspections to ensure conformance to specifications, and will be expected to drive continuous improvement in both new and existing processes. The successful candidate will have a vision for driving Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and part/tooling standardization, and will be expected to complete tasks on time while adhering to the company's ethics and business conduct policies. This position is non-exempt and reports to the Manufacturing Manager, and it requires a high school diploma or GED along with significant experience in CNC programming and machining.

Responsibilities

  • Create CNC programs utilizing the latest MasterCam software.
  • Test, modify, and enhance setup procedures.
  • Maintain and preserve NC code and CAM libraries.
  • Develop, prepare, optimize, and maintain setup and operation documents.
  • Record and maintain established processes to ensure authorized changes are made.
  • Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Design and select work holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and material sizes needed when creating programs.
  • Use Renishaw probing cycles in CNC programming.
  • Support the prove-out process with machinists and inspections to meet conformance.
  • Drive continuous improvement to new and existing processes.
  • Design fixtures as needed.
  • Complete tasks on time and adhere to company ethics and business conduct policies.

Requirements

  • 7 years of CNC multi-axis Mill programming experience using MasterCam software (Required).
  • 3 years of Solid Modeling experience (Required).
  • Ability to troubleshoot programming errors and enhance CNC efficiency.
  • Knowledge of Horizontal and Vertical Mills and multi-axis machines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read blueprints and advanced GD&T knowledge.
  • Good machining practices and knowledge of speeds and feeds.
  • Experience with cutting techniques for stainless steel, aluminum, and other materials.
  • Knowledge of CNC G-codes and M-codes.
  • Familiarity with Renishaw probing use.
  • Experience with HAAS and Fanuc control systems.
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong shop math skills, including analytic geometry, algebra, and trigonometry.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks and Cimco editor.
  • Experience working with castings.
