The CNC Programmer role at SpaceX is a critical position that requires a comprehensive understanding of CNC machining and programming operations. This role involves close collaboration with machinists, leads, engineering teams, and machining operations management to enhance productivity and optimize machining programs and procedures. The CNC Programmer will specifically support the Starlink Product efforts, focusing on tool and die applications. The ideal candidate should be adept at handling complex surfacing, contours, and programming for graphite electrodes. In this position, the CNC Programmer will utilize NX or MasterCam CAD/CAM/CAE software to program CNC parts, ensuring that all NC files are verified and that revision control is maintained on programs and setup sheets. A strong knowledge of carbide tools is essential, as the programmer will be responsible for adjusting speed and feed parameters to maximize tool life. The role also includes making suggestions for drawing changes to improve manufacturability, setting up and operating machines, and meeting productivity and production goals. The CNC Programmer is expected to keep products moving efficiently and to alert management when production is hindered, while consistently providing ideas for process improvements. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a minimum of three years of CNC programming experience, particularly with NX. Preferred candidates will have at least five years of experience and familiarity with multi-axis mill and lathe CNC machines, as well as experience in tool and die applications involving complex surfacing and contours. Additionally, the role demands physical capabilities such as lifting up to 25 lbs unassisted and performing various physical tasks including standing, climbing, and bending. The CNC Programmer must be flexible to work either first or second shifts, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
