About the position

Fathom is seeking a skilled CNC Programmer to join our team in Hartland, Wisconsin. As one of the largest digital manufacturing platforms in North America, Fathom offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic environment. The CNC Programmer will play a crucial role in our manufacturing process, utilizing their expertise in CNC programming to ensure precision and efficiency in our operations. With over 90 large-platform industrial-grade 3D printing machines and a national footprint, Fathom is at the forefront of the industry 4.0 digital manufacturing revolution, serving clients across various sectors including technology, defense, aerospace, medical, automotive, and IoT. In this role, the CNC Programmer will be responsible for offline programming for 3-5 axis mills and lathes, as well as setting up and operating CNC machines as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC programming, with at least three years of experience and proficiency in CAD/CAM software, particularly Mastercam. The CNC Programmer will also be tasked with creating documentation for the shop floor, including tooling lists and setup sheets, and will be expected to monitor and inspect parts throughout the manufacturing process to maintain quality standards. Fathom values a clean and safe working environment, and the CNC Programmer will be expected to adhere to MCT quality and safety procedures. This position may also involve providing training to other team members and collaborating with colleagues to solve technical issues. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Offline CNC programming for 3-5 axis mills, including 2D and 3D surface milling.
  • Offline CNC programming for lathes.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines as needed.
  • Support shop floor setups and knowledge transfer.
  • Create documentation for the shop floor, including tooling lists and setup sheets.
  • Document standard machining and CNC setup practices.
  • Design work-holding fixtures.
  • Translate CAD files into CNC programs.
  • Monitor and inspect parts throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Observe MCT quality and safety procedures.
  • Provide training to other team members as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members to share information and solve technical issues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in CNC programming.
  • Demonstrated ability to program using CAD/CAM software, specifically Mastercam.
  • Ability to read blueprints and execute shop math accurately.
  • Complete work in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime as required.
  • Proficient understanding of G-code.
  • Proficient understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and high attention to detail.
  • Flexible and able to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information.
  • Self-motivated and able to take responsibility for tasks.
  • Must be able to read and write in English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in a relevant field and/or other technical certification or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to program mill-turn or live spindle lathes.
  • Ability to edit and create CAM Post Processors.
