About the position

The CNC Programmer at Coherent is responsible for developing and applying CNC fabrication processes on optical materials such as glass, silicon, and SiC to manufacture ultra-precision components and systems. This role involves programming CNC routines using Mastercam for the machining of complex structures and aspheric surface geometries. The CNC Programmer will operate Haas and DMG-Mori 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centers to machine a variety of optical materials to precise specifications. Collaboration with the design team is essential to conceptualize and implement standardized tools and fixtures, ensuring that manufacturing methods are developed, sustained, and improved to enhance efficiency and yield. Additionally, the CNC Programmer will coach and train junior technicians in CNC fabrication technical skills, methods, and programming, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. The ideal candidate for this position will have a minimum of 10 years of CNC machining and programming experience, with extensive knowledge of commercially available CAM software, preferably Mastercam. A solid understanding of GD&T tolerances and technical drawing interpretation is crucial. While knowledge of glass and/or ceramic machining is not a requirement, it is considered a plus. Experience with 5-axis programming is preferred but not mandatory, and familiarity with macros, probes, and tool setters will be advantageous. The role also requires adherence to safety protocols, including following site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Corporate EHS standards. Depending on the location, the CNC Programmer may be responsible for executing and maintaining ISO 9000, 9001, 14001, and other applicable standards within the Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
