About the position

The Coil Logistics Technician position at U.S. Steel is an industrial maintenance role focused on maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment within the Big River Steel Facility. The technician will ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards while supporting production operations through preventative maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, environmental, quality requirements and Responsible Steel requirements are followed as a priority.
  • Carry out good housekeeping practices in job areas and grounds.
  • Troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, and repair complex mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Install and/or modify mechanical and electrical equipment following proper codes, manuals, schematic diagrams, and other specifications.
  • Assist operational personnel with tasks needed to support production.
  • Use precision measuring devices to ensure proficiency.
  • Assist maintenance teams in other departments when needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain and troubleshoot VFD motor control systems.
  • Basic PLC experience, preferably with TIA Portal.
  • Basic electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to use mechanical ingenuity and make decisions in a fast-paced production environment safely and efficiently.
  • General knowledge of Cranes and Coil Logistics System and their role in production.
  • Adaptability to accept changes in job duties and eagerness to learn new knowledge.
  • Reliable team player with good communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and willing to work extra hours when needed.
  • General knowledge of the production process leading to Coil placement.
  • Experience with mobile equipment and manlifts.
