About the position

The Collegewide Student Communications Specialist is a pivotal role within the Office of the President at the College, responsible for the planning, development, and execution of electronic communication strategies aimed at informing and engaging students. This position utilizes the latest approved technology tools to foster awareness and transparency regarding semester milestones, college events, and activities, ensuring that students navigate their college experience effectively. The specialist will work closely with various internal stakeholders, including division and department leads, the Student Support Center, and the vice president for academic affairs, to create accurate and engaging content for student communications. In this role, the specialist will assist the associate vice president for student affairs in creating, editing, and coordinating messaging campaigns that include critical information such as financial aid reminders, advising deadlines, and other important semester milestones. The incumbent will also collaborate with the director of research and analytics and the IT database administrator to identify and segment student populations, addressing any issues related to message execution and developing appropriate solutions. A significant aspect of the job involves maintaining a communication calendar and planning student-friendly, grammatically correct email and text communications to be deployed at designated times throughout the academic year. The specialist will be responsible for tracking and analyzing metrics to produce regular reports for key stakeholders, covering campaign effectiveness, engagement, and general trends in student communications. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying challenges within the communication process and collaborating with various divisions to resolve these issues, ensuring that all communications align with the college's branding standards and communication style.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the associate vice president for student affairs in the creation, editing, and execution of student- and business-friendly communications.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Research & Analytics to accurately identify student populations and ensure scripts are written correctly.
  • Work with Information Technology to segment student populations in Banner Communication Manager and identify challenges related to message execution.
  • Collaborate with departments and divisions to understand student communication needs and develop a strategic communication plan.
  • Identify challenges within the communication process and collaborate with appropriate divisions to resolve them.
  • Determine the appropriate mode of communication (email and/or text) for messages and create communications that contain text, graphics, and personalized data fields.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes in collaboration with the associate vice president for student affairs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date communication calendar for the college community.
  • Track and analyze metrics to produce regular reports for key stakeholders on campaign effectiveness and engagement trends.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of College mission, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, structures, and operations.
  • Knowledge of strategic communications and student success strategies.
  • Proficiency in Banner Communication Manager, Microsoft Office Suite, and other communication software.
  • Skill in project management and technology applications for email and text communication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and relate to a diverse population.
