About the position

Monarch E&S, a division of SPG Insurance Solutions, is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our rapidly growing team. This position is pivotal in developing, managing, marketing, underwriting, and sustaining profitable business relationships by providing high-level technical and sales expertise in commercial insurance coverages. The successful candidate will work closely with independent and retail insurance agents and brokerages, ensuring that we meet the diverse needs of our clients while maintaining profitability and compliance with underwriting guidelines. In this role, you will be responsible for building cooperative and dependable relationships with independent insurance agencies and brokerages to create business placement opportunities. You will develop and maintain underwriting and cooperative service relationships with insurance carriers, demonstrating an in-depth knowledge of commercial insurance and underwriting guidelines, both in excess and surplus lines as well as standard markets. Recognizing acceptable business opportunities through the underwriting pre-qualification process is essential, as is successfully negotiating market placements of new and renewal business. You will be expected to meet and sustain targeted revenue goals while coordinating resources to accomplish specific account objectives. As a leader, you will motivate and educate co-workers, blending your leadership and technical skills to foster a productive work environment. Additionally, you will assume ultimate responsibility for the successful completion of all account tasks and details within your account portfolio, ensuring that all operations align with workplace laws and corporate policies.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience and knowledge considered.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a commercial insurance brokerage or underwriting environment, including wholesale brokerage experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commercial insurance coverages and relevant forms for excess and surplus lines, understanding of both admitted and non-admitted markets.
  • Trusted working relationships with carrier and markets.
  • Highest level of customer relations, sales management, and negotiating skills to effect profitable results.
  • Highest level of interpersonal skills to facilitate team building and resource management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel extensively.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
