About the position

The Commercial Lines Underwriter position in Collierville, Tennessee, is a permanent role focused on both acquiring new business and maintaining relationships with existing clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to client inquiries regarding policy and coverage questions, as well as consulting on policy changes and risk management concerns. This role requires a proactive approach to client service, ensuring that all interactions are timely and professional. The Underwriter will work closely with clients and insurance carriers to provide comprehensive support and solutions tailored to each client's needs. In this position, the Underwriter will leverage their knowledge of various commercial accounts, including commercial auto, contractors, garage, inland marine, and umbrella policies. They will be tasked with answering all client policy and coverage questions, marketing and quoting new business and renewals, and obtaining competitive coverage and cost ratios for clients. Additionally, the Underwriter will identify, compile, and manage information regarding account renewals, ensuring that all client accounts are up-to-date and accurately represented. The role demands a strong understanding of the insurance industry, particularly in commercial underwriting, and the ability to provide expert consultation on risk management issues. The Underwriter will be expected to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to ensure that clients receive the best possible service and advice regarding their insurance needs.

Responsibilities

  • Bring in new business and maintain relationships with existing clients.
  • Respond to client calls about policy and coverage questions.
  • Consult with clients on policy changes and risk management concerns.
  • Provide timely and professional day-to-day client service working closely with clients and carriers.
  • Have a working knowledge of commercial accounts such as commercial auto, contractors, garage, inland marine, umbrella, etc.
  • Answer all client policy and coverage questions.
  • Market and quote new business and renewals, obtaining competitive coverage/cost ratios for the client.
  • Identify, compile, and manage information regarding account renewals.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of insurance industry experience related to commercial underwriting.
  • Experience with Excess & Surplus lines and MGA knowledge.
  • Property and Casualty license is required.
  • CIC, CPCU, or other insurance designations are desirable.
  • Ability to provide consultation and expert advice to management on risk management issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to commute to an onsite office.
