About the position

The C&I Commercial Portfolio Manager is responsible for evaluating the risk levels of custom commercial transactions and making informed decisions in line with company guidelines. This role involves managing a portfolio, collaborating with Relationship Managers, and preparing comprehensive credit summaries. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of commercial loans and will be able to analyze financial statements to assess creditworthiness, identify risks, and support lending decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the risk level of custom commercial transactions.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to address loan requests and potential issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit summaries with Relationship Managers and Credit Manager.
  • Analyze financial statements for creditworthiness, including business and personal tax returns.
  • Identify recurring and non-recurring income/expenses and comprehend financial schedules.
  • Differentiate between cash and accrual methods and perform UCA cash flow analysis.
  • Summarize results of related entities and identify credit strengths and weaknesses.
  • Determine applicable loan agreement covenants and monitoring requirements.
  • Support management of the Relationship Manager portfolio by addressing covenant violations.
  • Facilitate decision-making and analysis of credit information to support lending processes.
  • Maintain a client service environment to exceed customer expectations.
  • Make credit decisions in compliance with Bank Policies & Procedures.
  • Identify new sales opportunities through analysis of client activities.
  • Participate in on-site client visits with internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor covenants of clients within assigned portfolio for compliance and credit conditions.
  • Provide accurate financial analysis and risk assessment for new and existing customers.
  • Assist in negotiations of loan terms and conditions with clients.

Requirements

  • Typically 4 - 6 years of relevant experience in commercial lending or portfolio management.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and team skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Influence skills to effectively communicate and persuade stakeholders.
  • Data-driven decision-making capabilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in high net worth market lending.
