About the position

Farm Bureau Financial Services is seeking a Commercial Underwriter who will play a crucial role in driving the acquisition of profitable new business by evaluating various commercial new business risks. This position requires a strong understanding of underwriting guidelines and processes to ensure compliance with regulations and desired risk tolerance. The ideal candidate will be responsible for effectively accepting, modifying, or rejecting commercial new business risks while providing excellent customer service to agents, underwriters, and client/members. The role demands a collaborative and analytical approach to support the commercial business needs of the organization. As a Commercial Underwriter, you will define, implement, and monitor a client service strategy that aligns with the goals of the business unit. You will partner with business center directors to ensure the alignment of commercial operations and achieve targets related to client service, growth, loss ratio, and efficient operations within a defined territory. Collaboration with Farm Bureau agents is essential, as you will assist agency staff in selecting and writing profitable commercial business for Farm Bureau Financial Services. Your responsibilities will also include managing assigned underwriting tasks to identify business trends, ensure profitability, and build relationships through underwriting new business. You will contribute to the profitability of the organization by effectively managing risks associated with commercial new business and adhering to underwriting guidelines and best practices. Maintaining an acceptable quality audit score is critical to ensure the profitable growth of the commercial business unit.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement, and monitor a client service strategy.
  • Partner with business center directors to support alignment of commercial operations.
  • Achieve business unit goals for client service, growth, loss ratio, and efficient operations within a defined territory.
  • Collaborate with Farm Bureau agents working with both prospective and current client members.
  • Assist agency staff in selecting and writing profitable commercial business for Farm Bureau Financial Services.
  • Manage assigned underwriting tasks to identify business trends, ensure profitability and build relationships, through underwriting new business.
  • Contribute to the profitability of Farm Bureau Financial Services by effectively accepting, modifying, or rejecting various commercial new business risks, and through the understanding of adherence to our reinsurance contracts.
  • Adhere to underwriting guidelines and best practices and maintain an acceptable quality audit score to ensure profitable growth of the commercial business unit.

Requirements

  • College degree or equivalent required plus at least seven years of relevant work experience required.
  • Prior Commercial Underwriting experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills required.
  • Computer/keyboard skills appropriate to this position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills appropriate to this position.
  • A valid driver's license and satisfactory motor vehicle records.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English language.
  • Reasonably regular and predictable attendance.
