About the position

Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a Commodity Manager - Indirect to lead Global Supply Management for Indirect categories. This role is pivotal in driving productivity and supporting cross-functional teams, including Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Product Management. The Commodity Manager will implement leadership-driven initiatives such as Value Engineering and e-Sourcing, ensuring that Valmont's supply chain is efficient and effective. The position involves evaluating suppliers strategically, negotiating terms to improve cash flow, mitigate risks, and ensure that there is adequate supply capacity to meet Valmont's demands. In this role, the Commodity Manager will collaborate closely with Business Unit manufacturing teams to initiate cost-reduction sourcing projects on a global scale. This collaboration is essential to ensure alignment with production, engineering, and quality control standards. The manager will also be responsible for monitoring supply market risks and coordinating efforts with the Global Sourcing team to ensure that Valmont remains competitive and responsive to market changes. The position requires a strong focus on developing procurement strategies and policies that ensure compliance while driving adoption across the organization. The Commodity Manager will resolve issues that arise between internal stakeholders and suppliers, identify and mitigate risks associated with categories and contracts, and manage supplier contracts and performance to promote continuous improvement. Additionally, the role involves leading value engineering and strategic sourcing projects, conducting detailed supply market analysis, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop procurement strategy and policies, ensuring compliance and driving adoption.
  • Resolve issues between internal stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Identify and mitigate category, contract, and supply risks.
  • Manage supplier contracts and performance, promoting continuous improvement.
  • Lead VA/VE and strategic sourcing projects within budget and timelines.
  • Conduct detailed supply market analysis and reporting.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
  • Lead value engineering and cross-functional team activities.
  • Support supply optimization and lean development efforts.
  • Manage special projects and assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree specializing in Supply Chain Management or Indirect and material management experience with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • 6+ years of Indirect Commodity Management experience.
  • Strong negotiation and financial acumen.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
  • Fluency in English required; additional languages a plus.
  • Ability to travel 30%, both internationally and domestically, including overnight stays.
