The Communication Specialist at Counter PHI, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting flight operations in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Reporting directly to the Communication Center Supervisor, this position involves a variety of responsibilities including flight following, emergency response assistance, and general support for flight operations. The specialist will be responsible for filing and confirming internal flight plans, revising estimated times of arrival (ETAs), and ensuring that all flight plan information is accurate and up-to-date. In addition, the role requires responding to various flight plan alerts and assisting with overdue aircraft response duties, including acting in emergency situations such as MayDays and assisting aircraft in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IIMC). The Communication Specialist will also provide critical support to pilots by advising them on converging and reciprocal flight paths, Enhanced Operational Controls (EOCs), storm and adverse weather conditions, and other important flight information such as NOTAMs, fuel location status, and current weather observations. This position requires a high level of communication and coordination with pilots, management, and other departments to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. The specialist will also be responsible for filing reports with the U.S. Coast Guard regarding oil spills and distressed vessels, as well as assisting with troubleshooting radio and equipment issues. The work environment is dynamic and can be high-pressure, requiring the ability to multitask and make logical decisions quickly. The Communication Specialist will work in a communication center that operates 24/7, averaging over 3,000 contacts daily, and will be expected to manage a computer console with multiple monitors throughout their shift. Training will be provided on the job, and the schedule may require flexibility, including potential relocation to support operations during severe weather events.
