About the position

The Director of Communication and Marketing at Michigan State University's College of Communication Arts and Sciences is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the college's marketing and communications strategies. This position involves directing integrated marketing efforts, managing internal and external communications, and enhancing the college's brand presence. The director will collaborate with various stakeholders to promote the college's initiatives and ensure effective messaging across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the marketing and communications unit for the College of Communication Arts and Sciences.
  • Direct overall integrated marketing and communications strategies for the college.
  • Identify stories to promote the college locally and nationally.
  • Collaborate with lead communicators throughout campus to develop joint content.
  • Plan and oversee coordination and execution of core college communications.
  • Coordinate college content production and optimize processes for editorial content and marketing materials.
  • Implement communication and branding standards for the college in alignment with university standards.
  • Lead strategic communications planning and execution for the college.
  • Conceptualize and execute integrated marketing communications plans to elevate the college's reputation.
  • Use metrics and analytics to connect communications with audiences and enhance personalization.
  • Develop a comprehensive social media strategy to increase brand awareness and engagement.
  • Serve as a partner to the Dean for executive-level communication and crisis communication planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, telecommunications, marketing, advertising, public relations, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing communications.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent oral, written, and digital communication skills.
  • Management and supervisory experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Higher education experience is strongly preferred.
  • 8 or more years of leadership experience in communications, marketing, and public relations.
  • Experience in identifying audience needs and increasing engagement with diverse stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience using data analytics to drive strategies and decision making.
  • Knowledge of best practices for communication with diverse audiences.
