About the position

The Communications Director at Messiah Lutheran Church is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the church's internal and external communication and marketing efforts. This role is crucial for ensuring that congregation members and potential members receive clear, consistent, and engaging communication across various platforms. The Director will oversee the development and implementation of communication strategies that effectively convey the church's mission, vision, and events to the broader community.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design, editing, and publishing of the church's printed and electronic communications.
  • Lead efforts related to the development, maintenance, and improvement of the church's website.
  • Keep the website current with ministries, calendar, and events, and provide regular reports on website traffic.
  • Maintain and update social media accounts, moderating content posted to those accounts.
  • Organize and maintain church member photos and manage the church's membership directory.
  • Lead volunteers in creating a digital archive of the church's historical holdings.
  • Assist in training volunteers on the Communications Team in various media skills.
  • Produce designs and copy for church-wide publications and create communication strategies for events.
  • Design promotional materials and monitor the branding of all church communications.
  • Work with church staff to improve messaging and signage quality throughout the church.
  • Craft strategies to increase the church's visibility in the community and manage external communications.

Requirements

  • A Christian committed to growing in grace and understanding Lutheran theology.
  • Experience in using computer software for website creation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability in graphic design and photography for quality communications.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional manner.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in events management and marketing.
  • Familiarity with social media strategies and search engine optimization.
