About the position

The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems. This position is with the Office of Communications within DTMB. DTMB is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to serve as the state administrative manager for its Communications Office. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing communication strategies and initiatives that support DTMB's IT and Procurement business units. The successful candidate will manage a team of communication professionals, develop and execute comprehensive communication plans and strategies, and ensure alignment with DTMB's mission, goals, and policies. This position will also serve as a senior advisor for service delivery communication efforts and act as a backup to the DTMB communications director as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication strategies and plans for DTMB's IT and Procurement business units.
  • Manage communications project requests and provide leadership in prioritizing and executing tasks to meet organizational objectives.
  • Direct and support a team of professional communications staff, ensuring consistent performance and alignment with department goals.
  • Write, edit, and review high-quality content for a variety of internal and external audiences, including reports, newsletters, presentations, and web content.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across DTMB to promote effective and consistent messaging.
  • Serve as a senior advisor for DTMB's service delivery communication efforts, providing strategic recommendations and solutions.
  • Act as a backup to the DTMB Communications Director, stepping into leadership roles as required.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to continuously improve communication processes and approaches.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
  • Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
