About the position

The Communications Manager at Capital One will play a pivotal role in managing external communications programs, particularly focusing on earned media to enhance the awareness of Capital One's Travel brand. This position requires a creative and strategic communications professional who can collaborate with various teams and external partners to deliver high-impact programming that addresses real-world business challenges. The role operates in a fast-paced environment and demands exceptional judgment, teamwork, and a results-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a PR representative on the integrated Capital One Travel team, partnering with Business, Marketing, Brand and Internal Communications teams.
  • Develop and socialize strategic plans.
  • Project manage and coordinate programs across multiple stakeholders.
  • Develop messaging, media materials, spokesperson remarks and responses to inbound media inquiries.
  • Play a central role in media relations; build and foster relationships with key media, identify opportunities to drive coverage among key outlets and manage inquiries.
  • Liaise with external partners and agencies, collaborating to ensure flawless execution and best-in-class results.
  • Set goals for programming, develop measurement approach and report on results.
  • Introduce creative solutions to challenges; push the PR and partner teams to test new approaches.
  • Deeply understand the business you are supporting and leverage this knowledge to inform your approach to day-to-day work.
  • Stay abreast of evolving trends in the travel and card media environment and apply insights to ongoing strategy and execution.
  • Constantly collaborate with teammates across the Card and overall Corporate Communications teams to develop and execute best in class programming.
  • Contribute to team operational excellence by supporting media monitoring, budget management, prioritization of work, development of best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or military experience.
  • At least five years of communications experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least one year of experience working in an integrated marketing and communications environment.
  • At least two years of experience in PR, working with or for travel, hospitality, credit card, and/or luxury goods and services.
  • At least two years of media relations experience.
