About the position

The Communications Specialist at IAAPA plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization's global communication efforts. This position is designed for a versatile individual who can manage media relations, oversee social media platforms, plan events, and analyze data to support the organization's mission of connecting and inspiring the attractions industry. The ideal candidate will be a skilled communicator and project manager, capable of juggling diverse tasks while collaborating across various teams. In the realm of media and public relations, the Communications Specialist will field and manage media inquiries, ensuring that requests are directed to the appropriate personnel or responded to directly based on established messaging. This role also involves managing media materials and assets, as well as collaborating with the global communications team on various initiatives and campaigns to ensure consistency across different regions. Social media management is another key responsibility, where the specialist will engage with audiences on various platforms, respond to comments and messages, and create and schedule posts that promote news, initiatives, and events. Monitoring community sentiment and identifying potential issues for escalation are also critical tasks in this area. Event planning and awards coordination will require logistical and communications support for various events, including venue coordination and guest communications. The specialist will work closely with the awards committee to ensure successful event execution and effective communication with winners. Finally, the role includes analytics and reporting, where the specialist will gather data from social media, media outreach, and website traffic to develop insightful reports that measure the effectiveness of communication efforts and guide future strategies. Monthly performance documentation will be prepared for the Chief Marketing Officer to aid in reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Field and manage media inquiries directed to the PR inbox.
  • Ensure media requests are assigned to the appropriate people for response or respond based on agreed upon messaging.
  • Manage media materials and assets as needed.
  • Collaborate with the global communications team on initiatives, campaigns, and content development, ensuring consistency across regions.
  • Engage with audiences across various social media platforms, responding to comments, questions, and direct messages in a timely and on-brand manner.
  • Create and schedule social media posts promoting news, initiatives, and events.
  • Monitor community sentiment and identify potential issues or risks for escalation.
  • Manage the Digital Press Room on the website.
  • Provide logistical and communications support for awards events, including venue coordination, guest communications, and materials development.
  • Collaborate with the awards committee on event execution, program development, and winner communications.
  • Gather data from social media, media outreach, and website traffic.
  • Develop clear and insightful analytics reports to measure the effectiveness of communication efforts and guide future strategies.
  • Build out monthly analytics performance documentation and submit it to the CMO for monthly reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, computer science, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years' experience in project management.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, proofreading, and editing skills, including strong knowledge of AP Style.
  • Proficient in the use of marketing automation platforms and the ability to extract and interpret data from analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and the ability to manage timelines and budget effectively.
  • Proven ability to consistently meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.
  • Proactive in identifying problems and developing creative, efficient solutions.
  • Excellent attitude, written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with global and local teams and document processes.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Google Docs and Sheets.
