About the position

The Communications Specialist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) plays a crucial role in executing communications strategies and programs aimed at enhancing employee engagement and disseminating key messages across various departments and divisions. The specialist will be responsible for drafting, editing, and delivering employee messaging through multiple media channels, including print materials, advertisements, e-publications, websites, intranet content, social media, and presentations. The role also encompasses ongoing internal communications to ensure that all messaging aligns with UAB's brand and communication standards. In addition to content creation, the Communications Specialist will leverage available technologies to ensure an integrated internal presentation of the UAB brand. A significant aspect of the role involves gathering and analyzing data on the effectiveness of communications efforts, allowing for recommendations to improve reach and readership. The specialist must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to present information effectively and engage with various stakeholders. This position requires a keen understanding of graphic design principles and the effective use of the internet as a communication medium. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of related experience in communications or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in word processing, image processing, and content management systems (Joomla).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential materials and work in a fast-paced environment.
