About The Position

The Community Development Director for the City of Ouray, CO, is a key leadership role responsible for managing planning and zoning functions, overseeing community development operations, and ensuring effective implementation of policies and regulations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, public administration, or a closely related field.
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership/management role in community planning or urban/rural planning.
  • Proficient with GIS mapping software.
  • AICP certified or willingness to become AICP certified.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Experience with local government structure and operations, including budgetary procedures.

  • Ability to interpret codes accurately and enforce regulations fairly.

Responsibilities

  • Manage planning and zoning functions including current and long-range master planning.
  • Oversee and coordinate community development and planning operations.
  • Oversee building inspection and code enforcement cases.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise policies and procedures to improve planning functions.
  • Enforce the City's zoning, land use, litter, and dumping regulations.
  • Develop strategies to maximize collaboration with the local community.
  • Advise the public, City Council, and Planning Commission on land use policy.
  • Oversee current planning and land use permits, annexations, and policy development.
  • Oversee the issuance of building permits.
  • Responsible for site development review, flood plain administration, and affordable housing coordination.
  • Involved with GIS mapping analysis.
  • Provide general supervision to the city's Building Inspector.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of departmental staff and monitor training and performance.
  • Provide staff support for the Planning Commission and the Ouray Economic Development Committee.
  • Serve as the staff liaison to citizens regarding current planning projects.
