About the position

The Director of Community Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for all community-based programs within the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and person-centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Director will manage multiple service areas, including staffing, training, and ensuring operational efficiency while collaborating with senior leadership to align services with organizational goals and the mission of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day to day operations for all Community Services (CS) and Employment Services (ES) programs, ensuring person-centered care for individuals with IDD
  • Coordinate with senior leadership to ensure operational strategies align with long-term organizational goals and service needs.
  • Ensure all required documentation, including ISP (Individual Support Plan) signatures, is properly monitored and compliant.
  • Manage audits, documentation, and risk management processes, ensuring all environments meet safety, accessibility, and regulatory standards
  • Supervise Team Managers, offering mentorship and guidance to ensure staff development, leadership growth, and alignment with strategic goals
  • Oversee staff development initiatives, including ongoing training, mentoring, and recognition, to retain and develop a skilled workforce
  • Oversee recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring that staffing levels meet the needs of the community and service delivery expectations
  • Lead and facilitate regular team meetings, fostering communication, addressing concerns, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including DMH guidelines, Medicaid Waiver, and other relevant regulations, maintaining a high standard of quality for services
  • Develop and manage service plans and profiles for CS and ES programs, ensuring all records are current, accurate, and compliant
  • Ensure compliance with Self-Directed Supports (SDS) policies and oversee the implementation of job plans for staff, ensuring alignment with service goals
  • Ensure compliance with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) requirements, submitting updates and ensuring timely reporting through Sandata
  • Monitor the quality and effectiveness of community services, including reviewing service outcomes, conducting monthly service reviews, and implementing necessary improvements based on data, feedback, and best practices
  • Act as a liaison with SB40 to coordinate new and updated services for individuals, ensuring a seamless integration of services into the community
  • Represent the organization in required meetings, ensuring that the voice of the community and team is heard and advocating for the needs of individuals with IDD.
  • Maintain strong relationships with individual’s families, guardians, and case managers, ensuring open communication and transparency
  • Oversee the authorizations and billing processes for both CS and ES programs, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to funding requirements
  • Assist with the development and management of the department’s budget in collaboration with finance staff, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals
  • Maintain knowledge of developments, trends, and best practices in community services management
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, regulatory changes, agency compliance requirements, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field preferred
  • At least two years of leadership experience in community services, human services, or IDD programs or a related field preferred
  • At least two years of experience in a supervisory role preferred
  • Experience working with nonprofits, state entities, and accrediting agencies (DMH, VR, Medicaid Waiver, DHSS, CARF, CACFP, etc.) preferred
  • Experience in budget development and management, financial reporting, and ensuring fiscal responsibility preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong understanding of person-centered practices and the unique needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement
  • Track record of successful leadership, team management, and staff development
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply regulatory guidelines, financial data, and operational reports
  • Knowledge of best practices in residential services for individuals with IDD, including risk management and quality assurance systems
  • Ability to engage and maintain positive relationships with families, guardians, case managers, and community partners.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality of private, sensitive, or protected information
  • Ability to develop rapport and coordinate with other divisions, vendors, key stakeholders, etc.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and standard office equipment
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and working with a diverse population
