About the position

The Compensation & Benefits Manager at the Rhode Island Community Food Bank plays a crucial role in enhancing the organization's human resources programs and initiatives. This position partners closely with the Director of Human Resources to design, implement, and manage innovative strategies that attract, develop, engage, support, and retain a diverse and high-performing staff. The manager is responsible for overseeing the HRIS (ADP Workforce Now), payroll, benefits, and compensation processes. This includes the development and implementation of programs related to payroll processing, benefits administration, and compliance with HR benefits regulations. The incumbent will also coordinate the annual open enrollment process and assist employees with benefits-related inquiries throughout the year. In addition to managing payroll and benefits, the Compensation & Benefits Manager serves as the Systems Administrator for the ADP HRIS, ensuring that the system meets the organization's needs and is utilized effectively. This role involves collaborating with ADP to enhance system integrations, generating compliance reports, and maintaining accurate data. The manager will also oversee the administration of health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans, while ensuring compliance with IRS regulations. The position requires a strong focus on compensation management, including job description development, market analysis, and participation in compensation surveys. The manager will work with the Director of HR to oversee the annual Performance Management Program and ensure timely completion of merit increases and bonus programs. Additionally, the role involves talent acquisition and retention activities, such as conducting background checks, coordinating onboarding processes, and maintaining personnel files. Overall, this position is integral to fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment that aligns with the mission of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Systems Administrator of the ADP Human Resource Information System (HRIS).
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, including 401(k) transmittals and HSA deposits.
  • Administer health and welfare benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
  • Manage the annual benefits open enrollment program.
  • Develop and maintain job descriptions and perform market analyses for compensation management.
  • Conduct background checks and coordinate onboarding processes for new employees.
  • Generate annual HR compliance reports and maintain accurate data in the HRIS.
  • Provide guidance and training to HR/Finance team members on technical processes related to ADP.
  • Oversee IRS mandated compliance reporting and manage employee training related to benefits.
  • Coordinate random drug testing program for drivers and assist with employee terminations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • At least 7 years of related experience in progressively higher-level human resource roles.
  • Deep understanding of payroll, benefits, and compensation administration.
  • Highly skilled in ADP or similar payroll and/or HRIS systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for all personnel matters.
  • Self-motivated and committed to workplace participation and diversity.
