About The Position

The Computer Vision / Machine Learning R&D Engineer at BWX Technologies, Inc. is responsible for developing innovative machine learning models integrated with machine vision classifiers to enhance manufacturing processes. This role involves collaboration with engineering teams and data analysts to identify and classify manufacturing defects, improve sensor systems, and deploy scalable services for various nuclear applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Deep expertise in computer vision and machine learning, focusing on deep generative models (e.g., GANs, VAEs, diffusion models).
  • Experience in signal processing with knowledge of advanced signal processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of modern vision data methods, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting and neural volume rendering, is a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

  • Relevant master's degree or PhD can count towards some of the required professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop physics informed and constrained machine learning models integrated with machine vision classifiers.
  • Work on image classifiers, object detectors, video understanding models, and multi-modal classifiers.
  • Develop and improve sensor systems and hardware based on model performance.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to implement model pipelines and deploy services at scale.
  • Work with data analysts to understand and find data patterns.
