Constructability Engineer, Data Center Design Engineering

About the position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain - and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. Our goal is to find the candidate that has well developed data center technical knowledge coupled with practical construction and commissioning experience to help drive standards in this essential part of our delivery process. Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Global Constructability team, Design Engineering and Construction Management teams to ensure consistency of approach
• Drive practical constructability standards in design documentation
• Drive commissionability improvements in our designs
• Drive process improvements in the hand off from design to construction/commissioning
• Optimise the engineering input post design completion - driving consistent roles and responsibilities and accountability
• Work closely with regional engineering teams to drive consistency
• Act as the initial point of escalation for complex constructability issues
• 25% regional travel, sometimes unplanned

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering (or similar) or a Construction related discipline
• 5+ years of experience in Construction

Nice-to-haves

• 10+ years of experience in data center engineering
• In depth understanding of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
• Be a motivated, highly dependable individual
• An ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability
• Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards
