About The Position

The Construction Assistant at Housing Works is responsible for the facility repair and maintenance of all thrift shops operated by the organization. This role involves regular visits to thrift shops to assess and address repair needs, conduct maintenance checks on plumbing, heating, and electrical systems, and assist in preparing for construction projects. The Construction Assistant will work closely with thrift managers and the Construction & Engineering Team to ensure timely completion of repairs and effective communication regarding ongoing projects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 2-4 years of work experience in building trade skill sets such as carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Valid New York State driver's license.
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with plumbing repairs, door locks, electrical installations, and other facility-related repairs such as painting and plastering.
  • Prepare and clean work sites while adhering to safety rules and regulations.
  • Carry out assigned tasks at company facilities, including assisting the Construction & Engineering Team and supervisors.
  • Remove trash, debris, and other potentially dangerous materials from repair locations.
  • Service and operate power and hand tools, including power drills and painting tools.
  • Assist the Construction & Engineering Team in determining and preparing essential materials for repairs and upgrades.
  • Prepare for new projects and provide clear communication to supervisors and thrift store managers.
  • Work with facility managers, thrift managers, and subcontractors to manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Schedule, plan, and execute daily work order repairs.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all staff members within the Housing Works organization.
