About the position

Zurich is seeking an experienced Construction Casualty Underwriter, either at the Senior Level III or AVP Level IV, to join our National Accounts team in our Atlanta office. This position can also be based remotely in Alabama or Tennessee. The successful candidate will utilize their marketing and analytical skills to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business under general direction, employing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of higher technical complexity. This role is market-facing, requiring a strong sales execution mindset and a solid understanding of construction casualty policies. Key responsibilities include administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and ensuring compliance with insurance laws and regulations. The Underwriter will develop and maintain relationships with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as well as with distributors (agents and brokers) to support business retention and acquisition. The role involves proactively seeking renewal and new account opportunities, completing detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities, and qualifying accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunities. Additionally, the Underwriter will make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose, ensuring a high level of service to customers.

Responsibilities

• Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
• Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business-related needs, as appropriate.
• Develop and maintain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition.
• Work with customers and distributors to determine their insurance-related needs and provide solutions.
• Support the organization's sales culture by being a point of contact for agents, brokers, and customers.
• Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
• Complete detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
• Qualify accounts to meet the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.
• Make broker/customer and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Knowledge of Microsoft Office AND Experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business AND Experience working in a team environment.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND Experience with Microsoft Office.
