About the position

The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, track and coordinate operations, road maintenance, property maintenance, cleanliness, right-of-way signs and markings, snow removal and other public works projects. The incumbent reviews projects and ensures the quality and timeliness of projects. This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects work done or to be done by road maintenance crews, private contractors, and other entities.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, and evaluates operations, public road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance, cleanliness, and signs and markings programs for compliance to standards and regulations and recommends modifications and improvements.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Coordinates operations, road construction, road maintenance, property maintenance, cleanliness, and signs and markings projects and activities with other departmental personnel, contractors, and other entities.
  • Provides technical assistance and instruction concerning operations, use of signs and markings, and light and heavy construction equipment and materials.
  • Consults with general contractors, engineers, internal/external entities, and officials concerning the road maintenance, property maintenance, cleanliness, right-of-way signs and markings, snow removal and other public works projects.
  • Conducts field investigations to obtain information to develop construction, operations, and maintenance needs and evaluate site conditions.
  • Prepares cost estimates and submits specifications for projects.
  • Monitors schedules and budgets to assure timely completion within budget constraints, and oversees field inspections to ensure compliance with project or contract specifications.
  • Confers with citizens, contractors, and other entities to resolve complaints, disputes or problems.
  • Prepares reports and maintains records and files.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Three (3) years of road or drainage construction or maintenance, enforcement, community outreach or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
