About the position

The Consumer Portfolio and Policy Risk Manager II at Truist Bank is responsible for ensuring efficient and balanced risk management across various credit processes within the Consumer Credit and Policy Management team. This role involves overseeing credit adjudication, credit policy, portfolio management, and loss forecasting for assigned segments, which include Direct to Consumer, Retail Small Business, BankCard, Mortgage, Consumer Wealth Management, and more, totaling over $130 billion in outstanding balances. The manager will assist in providing portfolio oversight, evaluate controls, and deliver actionable credit insights to various stakeholders, including production leaders and servicing management teams. In this position, the manager will lead credit risk management efforts, performing forensic credit analysis to identify potential issues and trends within the portfolio. They will be responsible for independent credit decision adjudication for complex transactions and will work closely with business unit leaders to develop corrective action plans. The role also requires reviewing credit risk management processes, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring sound risk management techniques are implemented across key portfolio functions. The manager will participate in various credit functions and committees, communicate expectations regarding portfolio quality and profitability, and ensure that new product offerings align with the bank's risk appetite. Additionally, they will monitor problem assets and conduct process reviews related to origination, servicing, and loss mitigation activities. Interaction with external auditors and bank examiners is also a key aspect of this role, ensuring compliance and transparency in the bank's retail lending portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Provide credit risk management direction and leadership to assigned portfolio segments to achieve planned objectives and identify risks and trends.
  • Perform forensic credit analysis to identify outliers or early-stage issues with products, regions, and fulfillment centers.
  • Provide independent credit decision adjudication of large, complex, or exception-based transactions within the assigned portfolio segment.
  • Review components of consumer business unit credit risk management processes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure sound and efficient risk management techniques are implemented in key portfolio risk functions.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in various key credit functions and committees.
  • Communicate expectations relating to quality, profitability, and growth of the portfolio segment.
  • Ensure new or revised product offerings are consistent with the bank's prescribed risk appetite.
  • Oversee the credit review process in business units and monitor loan approvals as necessary.
  • Monitor lender, dealer, correspondent, or underwriter scorecards to assess loan quality and performance indicators.
  • Monitor problem assets of assigned segments to limit credit losses through communication with loss mitigation teams.
  • Perform process and policy reviews related to key origination, servicing, and default/loss mitigation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business; MBA preferred, or equivalent education and related training.
  • 12 years of credit-related experience including complex lending structures and problem loan experience.
  • 10 plus years of related experience in consumer, small business, credit card, mortgage, and wealth management.
  • Consumer risk and regulatory knowledge.
  • Superior ability to think strategically, multi-task, and drive change.
  • Strong quantitative, governance, and analytic abilities.
  • Strong decision-making capability.
  • Strong leadership, partnership, and management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in business administration, finance, or accounting.

  • RMA-Credit Risk Certified.
