Reporting to the National Business Director, the Sales Director (SD) is responsible for the successful promotion of Consumer product lines within the Nation. Managing through a team of District Managers and Professional Sales Representatives, the SD will oversee the activities and performance of the team. Responsible for meeting or exceeding partnership goals. This role can be based anywhere in the United States, preferably near a major airport.

Responsibilities

  • Manage regional staff of managers and interface with representatives
  • Selection, evaluation and retention of employees
  • Provide coaching and training of District Managers to build a capable and effective team through continuous feedback
  • Create a climate of trust so team members can act decisively by clarifying roles/responsibilities and establishing boundaries of decision-making
  • Inspire ownership, accountability, initiative, and engagement within the entire team by regularly communicating the vision, business objectives, performance outcomes, and future action steps
  • Demonstrate relentless drive to achieve business goals for the Nation and evaluate the potential impact of external events on the approved strategies
  • Approve and assist in the implementation of each district plans within the Nation
  • Demonstrate strong strategic thinking and communications skills by collaborating with customers and key stakeholders
  • Identify issues and opportunities before others and use robust analytical rigor to frame situations and incorporate new perspectives and ideas
  • Remain fully versed in promotional compliance regulations and ensure team is equally trained
  • Provide oversight to ensure the team is promoting product consistent with policies and that only approved promotional materials and messages are used in the field
  • Review employee performance, objectively assess performance and address skill development for direct reports to achieve performance management objectives
  • Provide feedback to marketing department and Sales Leadership on effectiveness of sales/educational materials
  • Provide thoughts on various training initiatives or gaps in skill sets with the team to enable the Head of Training to make adjustments to training plans
  • Establish a plan to provide regular communications to team and to receive their feedback
  • Interface with other functional leaders and teams in marketing, sales leadership, medical, human resources, and operations in order to achieve business goals
  • Responsible for the national budget and expense management
  • Frequent travel required within Nation and to home office

Requirements

  • B.S. degree required; M.S. or MBA preferred
  • Ten+ years' experience within pharmaceutical sales with five or more years' experience managing over District Managers
  • Preferred: Experience and working knowledge of primary care space
  • Ability to identify strategies with greatest business impact, formulate appropriate business plans within the approved strategy, and enroll their teams to execute the plan
  • Previous successful work experience in team selling environments, inclusive of successful management of teams
  • Ability to negotiate and influence cross-functionally
  • Excellent command of the English language required, both written and spoken
  • Current driver's license and clean driving record
