About the position

The AVP of Accounting at Rio Grande Credit Union is responsible for overseeing the Accounting Department and ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. This role involves managing financial reporting, budgeting, and audits while fostering a member-focused culture. The AVP will work closely with the CFO to implement strategic initiatives and maintain the financial integrity of the Credit Union.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Accounting Department through the Accounting Manager and ensure compliance with GAAP and tax laws.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports and manage the budgeting process.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of financials for accuracy and variances.
  • Manage cash, liquidity, and interest rate risk assumptions.
  • Oversee financial audits and regulatory exams.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget projections and monitor compliance with budgets.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Prepare regulatory filings and tax filings for the Credit Union.
  • Provide supervision and support to department staff and assist in resolving accounting inquiries.
  • Act as a primary liaison with third-party vendors and assist with vendor management.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of related experience in accounting or finance.
  • 4-year college degree or specialized course of study, or 10+ years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including spreadsheet and word processing software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Symitar software for member transactions.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
