About The Position

The Controls Engineer at Corning is responsible for automating production processes, improving machine controls, and installing machine data reporting systems. This role involves managing projects from design to implementation, ensuring compliance with quality systems, and participating in new product development and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • PLC knowledge and experience.
  • Experience integrating systems into advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated experience in various part sensing technologies.
  • Strong electro-mechanical skills with experience in automation and control system integration.
  • Ability to work with external machine builders and system integrators.
  • Strong team player with personal ownership of responsibilities.
  • Capable of executing project assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electrical design standards.
  • Familiarity with Performance Excellence programs (DMAIC, KT, etc.).
  • Good communication skills with engineers, production associates, and managers.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and handle multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Support control systems throughout the plant.
  • Establish technical direction and ensure compliance with plant standards.
  • Maintain functionality of controls in coordination with maintenance and operations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on control systems.
  • Design, develop, integrate, troubleshoot, and debug control systems.
  • Implement structured software development practices for efficient system completion.
  • Train engineers and technicians on new processes and equipment control systems.
  • Provide weekend and evening support as necessary for 24/7 operations.
  • Focus on receiving, developing, and supporting new assets.
  • Ensure equipment meets plant/industry standards and utilizes leading-edge technology.
