About The Position

The Controls Operations Engineer at Peraton will support the Deep Space Network (DSN) and Maintenance M&O contract with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). This role involves maintaining and updating operational controller assemblies across various disciplines, including Electrical, Mechanical, Cybersecurity, and Fire systems, to ensure the effective functioning of the DSN facilities. The engineer will collaborate with development engineers and operations teams to implement projects, troubleshoot systems, and provide technical guidance, ultimately contributing to NASA's interplanetary missions.

Requirements

  • 0 years with BS/BA; 4 years no degree.
  • Ability to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC).
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g. Assembly, C, C++, Python).
  • Experience with linear electrical/electronic components and electro-mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with serial and parallel communication protocols (I2C, Modbus, CAN bus, BACnet).
  • Basic understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS) and various sensor equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or Professional Engineering (PE) License.
  • Project Manager Professional (PMP) Certification.
  • Basic understanding of AC power, especially medium voltage, UPS's, and protection devices.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Cognizant Development Engineer in project implementation of repairing or replacing existing systems.
  • Take the technical lead in smaller projects involving research and coordination with subcontractors.
  • Review designs and provide feedback for new projects as a Controls Design Engineer.
  • Ensure safety of equipment, operations, and personnel through understanding of power distribution, generation, and protection.
  • Analyze data from various sensor equipment and perform trend analysis.
  • Troubleshoot HVAC components and follow through sequences of operations to identify issues.
  • Diagnose Ladder Logic and debug PLC programs, with experience in Automated Logic and Johnson Metasys systems being a plus.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel for control systems issues.
  • Create trade-off studies by interfacing with vendors on replacement solutions.
  • Serve as a test engineer during commissioning of new Controls projects, including occasional travel.
  • Maintain operational data and records related to configuration assets and automation improvements.
  • Assist site administrators with cybersecurity requirements and support the DSN Engineering Change Management Board.
