About the position

The Corporate Communications Specialist will provide essential communications support to the NGA Human Development (HD) Directorate. This role involves working closely with one of the five HD offices, specifically supporting the Human Development Strategic (HDS) office or the Analytic Capabilities Office. The primary responsibility is to ensure effective communication across all HD offices, including the HD Front Office, which is tasked with HD strategy and policy, Technical Integration for PeopleSoft enhancements, and Advanced Analytic support, including the analysis of surveys and assessments. The specialist will develop and implement both internal and external communications strategies, proactively identifying marketing strategies that align with the NGA mission and operations. This includes reaching out to potential users and user groups, analyzing customer needs, and making recommendations for message development and communication methods. The role requires tailoring messages to specific target audiences and producing various communication products, such as print, web, electronic materials, and briefings. In addition, the Corporate Communications Specialist will provide direction to graphic designers and other staff involved in the production of communication materials. They will prepare materials for publication, manage production schedules, and develop new communication methods to effectively reach target audiences. The specialist will also support NGA senior leaders by writing speeches, talking points, video scripts, and other communications products, ensuring that the leadership's communication needs are met through the development of a Strategic Communications Plan. This includes stakeholder analysis and communication needs management, assessing the effectiveness of communication plans, and providing feedback to leadership. Furthermore, the role involves providing presentation support to HD Office leadership, developing targeted graphical concepts, and crafting messages for the entire NGA workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement internal and external communications.
  • Proactively identify and implement marketing strategies.

  • Analyze customer needs and make recommendations for message/information development and communication method selection.
  • Tailor messages by target audience.
  • Research, write, edit, and publish communications products (e.g., print, web, electronic, briefings).
  • Provide direction to graphic designers, briefing developers, photographers, illustrators, and other required staff.
  • Prepare material for publication and other media both internally and externally.
  • Manage and monitor production schedules.
  • Develop new communication methods to reach target audiences.
  • Support NGA senior leaders by writing speeches, talking points, video scripts, briefings, and other communications products.
  • Create and implement strategic communications and understand the needs of the supporting HD Office.
  • Assist in the development of a Strategic Communications Plan and provide support for various communications vehicles.
  • Provide expertise in stakeholder analysis and communication needs management.
  • Provide presentation support to HD Office leadership, including developing targeted/tailored graphical concepts and designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Public Relations or Communication.
  • Top Secret//SCI Clearance.
  • 2+ years' of experience in strategic communications support or speechwriting.
  • At least 12 months demonstrated experience updating web content and using electronic publishing applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop Illustrator, or Adobe Pro.
  • At least 12 months demonstrated experience using AP style writing and editing.
  • At least 24 months demonstrated experience in communications strategy development.
