About the position

The Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 3 at SCI Laurel Highlands is a managerial role that requires a highly skilled individual in maintenance and operational management. This position is crucial for overseeing the daily maintenance operations of the institution, which includes preventative maintenance, ongoing construction projects, power systems, and employee assignments. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising maintenance, heating, and utility plant operations, as well as vehicle maintenance and operation at a Commonwealth facility. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing various maintenance functions, including physical plant maintenance, utility and heating plant operations, grounds keeping, housekeeping, and vehicle maintenance at a state correctional facility designed to accommodate 1,000 or more cells. In this position, you will be tasked with planning and directing the acquisition and distribution of resources for preventive, operational, and emergency maintenance, repair, and operations. This includes coordinating building maintenance, grounds keeping, housekeeping, vehicle maintenance and operations, and utility and heating plant maintenance and operations, which also encompasses hazardous waste removal and sewage treatment. You will participate in conferences with agencies, private consultants, and contractors to evaluate proposed plans for maintenance and repair projects, ensuring that the facility's needs are met. Additionally, you will prepare and review construction plans and inspect construction and renovation projects. This role requires a high level of initiative and independent judgment, with oversight from the Superintendent through conferences, reports, and overall effectiveness reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance, heating, and utility plant operations.
  • Plan, organize, and direct maintenance functions at the facility.
  • Coordinate building maintenance, grounds keeping, housekeeping, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Oversee utility and heating plant maintenance and operations, including hazardous waste removal and sewage treatment.
  • Participate in conferences with agencies, private consultants, and contractors regarding maintenance and repair projects.
  • Prepare and review construction plans and inspect construction and renovation projects.
  • Direct the acquisition and distribution of resources for maintenance and repair operations.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Facility Maintenance Manager 2;
  • Two years as a Facility Maintenance Manager 1;
  • Three years of experience as a Utilities Supervisor;
  • Seven years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including four years in a managerial or supervisory capacity;
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
