About the position

Cenikor Foundation is seeking a dedicated Counselor to join our team in Austin, TX. This full-time position is centered around providing essential support and guidance to clients dealing with substance abuse issues. The Counselor will work closely with clients to develop and implement individualized treatment plans, ensuring that each plan is tailored to meet the unique needs of the individual. This role requires a compassionate approach, as the Counselor will conduct both individual and group counseling sessions, facilitating life skills groups and leading encounter groups as assigned. The ideal candidate will embody the therapeutic community philosophy, acting as a rational authority and role model within the community, while also collaborating with facility staff to maintain a safe and supportive environment for recovery. In addition to direct client interaction, the Counselor will be responsible for completing client discharge summaries promptly and ensuring that all documentation is accurate and compliant with clinical, funding, and billing standards. Regular treatment plan reviews will be conducted to monitor client progress, and the Counselor will be expected to uphold the core principles of Cenikor's culture, contributing to a positive working environment for all team members. Responsibilities

  • Work with clients to develop and implement an individualized treatment plan within three service days of admission.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled treatment plan reviews every week.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services as indicated by the therapeutic schedule and treatment plan.
  • Conduct chemical dependency counseling sessions and life skills group sessions.
  • Lead encounter groups as assigned and act as a rational authority and role model within the therapeutic community modality.
  • Collaborate with facility staff to facilitate a safe environment for client recovery.
  • Complete client discharge summaries within two working days of discharge from the program.
  • Accurately complete required referral reports and submit as needed.
  • Monitor length of authorization by reviewing in Welligent and communicate with Insurance/Billing to create/update treatment plans accordingly.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and meets criteria for appropriate level of care according to clinical, funding, and billing standards.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulatory standards as well as Cenikor policies and procedures.
  • Uphold the core principles of Cenikor's culture to maintain a positive working environment for all team members.

Requirements

  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) required.
  • Two years of substance abuse treatment experience preferred.
  • One year of counseling experience with chemically dependent adolescents preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of therapeutic community philosophy and willing to adhere to it.
  • Possesses good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experienced in identifying appropriate resources for client development and providing substance abuse counseling.
  • Capable of discerning facts from opinions and remaining objective when listening to conflicting opinions.
  • Experienced in working with diverse populations.
  • Possesses good time management skills to meet aggressive deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Patience, perseverance, and resilience in a challenging environment.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including MS Outlook calendar.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a therapeutic community setting.
  • Familiarity with the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
