About the position

The CPS Investigations & Assessments Specialist role at Loudoun County Government involves working with the Child Protective Services Unit to ensure the safety and well-being of children and families. The position requires responding to emergency situations, conducting investigations into allegations of abuse or neglect, and performing comprehensive assessments. The successful candidate will work primarily in the evenings and will be responsible for developing service plans and providing crisis intervention while adhering to relevant policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to and provide emergency crisis intervention for families in need.
  • Investigate serious allegations of abuse or neglect, including sex abuse and human trafficking.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of children and their families.
  • Interview children, parents, guardians, and collateral contacts to determine risk and safety.
  • Develop individualized service plans for assigned cases and provide clinical case management.
  • Document clients' service histories using state and local case management programs.
  • Provide courteous and timely customer service to County staff, vendors, citizens, and visitors.
  • Lead and mentor staff, providing appropriate work guidance.
  • Complete special projects as assigned, either independently or as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field; OR a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two years of directly related experience in a human services area.
  • Availability to work primarily evenings, nights, and scheduled weekends and holidays as required.
  • Possession of a valid resident driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in crisis intervention and child welfare services.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and strengths-based approaches.
