About the position

The Crane Electrician role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and components related to weight handling and material handling equipment. This position requires interpreting technical drawings and schematics, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The role is critical in maintaining the operational efficiency of electrical systems at the Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of electrical equipment installations.
  • Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, co-axial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Maintain, repair, test, and install AC and DC electrical motors, generators, alternators, and electrical control systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance in accordance with P307 requirements.
  • Install WHE/MHE instrumentation and related devices.
  • Install conduit using threading, cutting, and bending equipment and tools.
  • Replace defective circuit breakers, switches, fuses, and other electrical wiring devices.
  • Use a variety of electrician's hand tools, testing, and measuring instruments.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience at the electrical journeyman-level in weight handling equipment, material handling equipment, or industrial equipment fields.
  • Proven ability to read and comprehend electrical blueprints and wiring schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair AC and DC electrical control systems including motors, motor controls, transformers, switchgear, and electrical panels.
  • Must successfully complete NAVFAC P307 WHE/MHE electrician course and general crane safety course within 180 days of employment.
  • Complete eight hours of national electrical code safety training biannually.
  • Become CPR-certified by a nationally recognized organization such as American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Possess the standard tools associated with the electrical trade.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Wear hard-toed safety shoes that meet ASTM F2413-05 standards.
