About the position

As a Crane Operator at Alaska Crane, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of cranes on a wide range of construction projects. This role requires a high level of skill in crane operation and rigging, as well as the ability to work with various heavy equipment and smaller company vehicles. You will be expected to operate boom trucks and cranes, ensuring that all lifts are within load limits and properly rigged. Safety is paramount, and you will conduct thorough inspections of equipment and lifting gear before each use to ensure they are in safe working order. In addition to operating cranes, you will also be responsible for assembling, setting up, and rigging cranes properly. Depending on the work and staff available, you may function as a rigger or signal person. You will also be required to drive haul trucks to mobilize and demobilize cranes, and complete necessary paperwork such as job tickets and crane inspection reports. The role demands a strong commitment to safety, as you will need to stay alert to external conditions that could affect crane operation and report any safety concerns to the company Risk Manager. The position involves physical labor, requiring considerable use of your arms and legs, as well as climbing, lifting, balancing, and handling materials at construction sites. You will work as part of a team, supporting your co-workers and participating in development and training opportunities. Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of cranes and boom trucks on construction jobs.
  • Inspect equipment and lifting gear prior to each use to ensure safety.
  • Ensure all lifts are within load limits and correctly rigged.
  • Stay aware of external conditions affecting crane operation.
  • Assemble, set up, and rig cranes properly.
  • Function as rigger/signal person as needed.
  • Drive haul trucks to mobilize and demobilize cranes.
  • Complete job tickets and crane inspection reports.
  • Follow directives from supervisors and maintain productivity.
  • Perform physical labor including climbing, lifting, and handling materials.
  • Participate in development and training opportunities.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Report any incidents or unsafe conditions to the Risk Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NCCCO Crane Operator Certification required.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience with progressive crane operation.
  • Current DOT Medical Card required.
  • Valid Class A driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle under Alaska Crane's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to pass employment drug, driving record, and background screening.

Nice-to-haves

  • Rigger/Signalperson Certification preferred.
  • Experience operating large, hydraulic cranes preferred.
