The Crime & Intelligence Analyst position is a journey-level role within the Police Department, operating under the general direction of the Criminal Intelligence and Analysis Manager. This role is pivotal in conducting complex research and analysis to provide timely and pertinent information regarding serious and prolific offenders, crime hotspots, and criminal groups. The analyst is responsible for researching, analyzing, and mapping crime trends and patterns, disseminating information related to criminal activity, and assisting patrol, investigations, and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources aimed at preventing and suppressing criminal activities. Additionally, the analyst participates in crime research and intelligence analysis activities in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, ensuring a comprehensive approach to crime analysis and intelligence sharing. The essential functions of the role include accessing data from various law enforcement and other sources to prepare complex analytical and statistical reports that assist in criminal investigations and intelligence assessments. The analyst collects, analyzes, and interprets data and statistics using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, such as link analysis and event flow analysis. They develop target profile analyses of criminal offenders and groups, utilizing computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, GIS, and statistical applications to analyze and present data effectively. Furthermore, the analyst is tasked with entering, updating, and tracking files in the criminal intelligence database in accordance with departmental policies and federal regulations. In addition to analytical tasks, the Crime & Intelligence Analyst supports investigators by compiling analyses of confidential information regarding complex criminal investigations and recommending specific investigative targets and strategies based on their findings. They respond to requests for information and analytical reports, assist in developing new programs and procedures, and provide relevant training to personnel. The role also involves delivering oral briefings, court testimony, and presentations on analytical products and techniques, thereby playing a crucial role in the communication of intelligence findings to various stakeholders.
