About the position

The Cross Functional Store Manager in Training at CarMax is responsible for leading and developing a team of 10-15 associates to deliver an exceptional customer experience. This role involves active participation in the sales process, overseeing store operations, and ensuring adherence to CarMax policies while striving to meet sales goals. The manager will also focus on training and development to foster a culture of learning within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of cross-functional associates to deliver a world-class selling experience.
  • Strategize to achieve store budgets and performance metrics based on corporate guidelines.
  • Plan daily business operations based on volume and staffing needs.
  • Monitor and adjust staffing levels according to business requirements.
  • Open and close the store as per schedule, providing management coverage.
  • Manage key business areas and operating procedures through execution of Area of Responsibility (AOR) duties.
  • Foster positive associate relations and drive performance through effective feedback and development.
  • Interview, hire, train, and promote associates to support store operations.
  • Lead training and development activities across various business areas to enhance customer experience.
  • Respond to customer feedback and resolve issues in collaboration with associates.
  • Ensure adherence to asset protection and risk management processes.
  • Manage cash and payment procedures associated with vehicle sales and services.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and waste reduction.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license that meets CarMax Driver Safety Points Evaluation System criteria.
  • Ability to partner with others to solve complex problems.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills in speaking, listening, and writing.
  • Ability to make independent judgments regarding critical business decisions.
  • Completion of CarMax provided training as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail management or sales leadership.
  • Familiarity with P&L management and financial responsibility.
