About the position

The Industrial Equipment Design Engineer - Cryogenics will coordinate and implement moderately complex engineering projects, focusing on the commercialization of cryogenic technologies in the food industry. This role involves collaboration with various teams, including marketing and OEMs, to ensure successful product development and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Mastery of mechanical engineering skill set and thorough knowledge of new developments and technology.
  • Heavily involved in pre-and post-sale support of commercial applications.
  • Evaluate the project's return on investment to justify capital expenditures.
  • Work closely with OEMs on the integration of unique freezing and cooling technology.
  • Collaborate with Marketing on the launch of new product development programs.
  • Demonstrate creativity and ingenuity in applying engineering principles and practices.
  • Develop, select, and implement engineering techniques and solutions to solve difficult problems.
  • Participate in defining engineering approaches and in planning, prioritizing, and scheduling work for the design team.
  • Perform engineering calculations for accurate sizing of customer-specific cooling and freezing applications.
  • Ensure successful completion of assigned project phases within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
  • Prioritize work and prepare engineering plans accurately.
  • Review and check project-specific drawings and data sheets to ensure compliance with design criteria and standards.
  • Influence team members and promote ideas to improve design and implementation practices.
  • Analyze the cost and benefits of various solutions, followed by appropriate recommendations.
  • Lead field teams through installations, startups, and issue identification, analysis, and repairs related to a primary skill area.
  • Interface with internal and external customers/suppliers.
  • Provide technical and engineering support to regions.
  • Provide technical guidance to other professionals.
  • Direct preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned project phases and prepare required reports and summaries to communicate project progress or results.
  • Travel to customer sites and equipment fabricators as required.
  • Work with technicians to facilitate the completion of design and fabrication.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in engineering (mechanical or industrial).
  • Managerial experience or an MBA.
  • A minimum of five (5) years overall experience in applications and/or design engineering (preferably in food applications).
  • Able to read, understand, and modify electrical schematics fluidly.
  • Proficiency in a CAD platform; strong familiarity with AutoDesk Inventor 2020.
  • Understanding of PLC programming and ladder logic, Allen Bradley RS Logix and Siemens a plus.
  • Experience in the supervision of technical teams and projects is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to travel approximately 40%.
  • Familiarity with applications in cryogenic and other relevant process industries is highly desirable.
  • Experience in equipment design and manufacturing.
  • Project management experience is highly desirable.
  • Background in new equipment and applications commercialization is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to articulate and communicate ideas to others across different levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Knowledge of how businesses operate; keenly aware of how strategies and decisions affect the success of projects.
  • Familiarity with USDA and NSF is a plus, but not required.
  • AutoCAD Electrical is a plus.
  • Familiarity with JDE, Oracle, or other ERP software with respect to accounting.
