About the position

The Cryogenics Facility Manager position at the University of Pittsburgh is a full-time role at the rank of Research Assistant Professor. The primary focus of this position is to oversee the operation and maintenance of the Pitt Cryogenics Plant and its recovery network, ensuring optimal performance and recovery from cryogenic systems. The role involves collaboration with faculty and staff to design and optimize cryogenic equipment, as well as training graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the use and maintenance of these systems. Candidates are expected to contribute to a diverse and inclusive academic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of the Pitt Cryogenics Plant and recovery network.
  • Maximize recovery from the cryogenics system.
  • Coordinate maintenance and reporting efforts of the plant among the Shared Research Support Services (SRSS) team.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Quantum Infrastructure and faculty to design and optimize cryostats and components.
  • Provide or arrange for advanced component maintenance.
  • Assist in training graduate students and postdoctoral scholars on the proper use and maintenance of cryogenic systems.
  • Collaborate with faculty on proposal submissions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with cryogenic equipment, including helium recovery plants and dilution refrigerators.
