The CT Technologist at Altru Hospital plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of patients undergoing imaging procedures. This position requires the technologist to receive a written physician order prior to performing any exams, ensuring that all pertinent information is collected beforehand. The technologist is responsible for reviewing exams on the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to check for quality and completeness, and must complete all necessary paperwork associated with the imaging process. The role emphasizes patient education, as the technologist provides information to patients and their families to optimize their understanding of the procedures within their scope of responsibility. In addition to performing imaging exams, the CT Technologist assists the Radiologist or physician during patient exams, promptly notifying them of any changes in the patient's condition that may affect the exam protocol. The technologist must ensure that all images are properly stored in PACS, with the appropriate paperwork scanned and distributed to the relevant radiologist for interpretation upon completion of the exam. A strong focus on patient safety and comfort is essential, particularly during the transportation, immobilization, and positioning of patients. The CT Technologist is also responsible for preparing pharmaceutical vials for injection, accurately calculating and measuring dosages, and administering the correct diagnostic or therapeutic dosages either orally or via intravenous injection. Maintaining accurate records of all materials received, dispensed, decayed, and disposed of is a critical aspect of this role. The technologist may also be required to perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and organization.
