About the position

The Custodian position is a part-time role responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of County buildings in Dorchester County, SC. The role involves performing various custodial duties under close supervision, ensuring a clean environment for staff and visitors, and adhering to established procedures and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides general custodial maintenance of assigned County buildings and facilities including walkways, stairways, elevators, offices, kitchen areas, lobby areas, courtrooms, judge chambers, and restrooms.
• Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, kitchen areas, and other facilities.
• Polishes water fountains, cleans windows and other glass surfaces, and dusts and polishes furniture and other surfaces.
• Removes trash, sweeps and mops floors, scrubs/polishes floors, and strips and waxes floors.
• Vacuuming, spot cleaning, and shampooing carpets as needed.
• Stocks restrooms with supplies and checks to see if lights are working.
• Performs light building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, painting surfaces, and performing minor repairs of equipment.
• Maintains security of locked doors and windows and may oversee inmate workers in custodial tasks.
• Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, initiating repair work as needed.
• Provides coverage for special meetings such as County Council meetings.
• Requests necessary tools, materials, and supplies, and responds to inquiries and complaints from County employees and the public.
• Attends training to enhance job knowledge and skills, and maintains accurate records of work performed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Requires at least six (6) months of related work experience.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license.
