About the position

The Cyber Security Engineer position at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) involves providing cyber and technical support for both unclassified and classified networks. The role requires managing complex security plans, conducting self-assessments, and overseeing computer security projects. The engineer will collaborate with team members and customers to address various cyber challenges, ensuring compliance and security across systems. This position is critical in supporting the Field Intelligence Element within the Computing Directorate, with opportunities for advancement based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Information Systems Security Owner (ISSO) and author comprehensive cyber security document packages.
  • Plan, design, and evaluate complex cybersecurity solutions.
  • Perform computer security tasks such as vulnerability remediation and audit of computer logs.
  • Inspect information systems for compliance and work with system administrators to maintain security status.
  • Manage account authorization processes and perform approvals for unclassified and classified accounts.
  • Collaborate with customers to design their computing environment and security management processes.
  • Research solutions and manage cyber-security related projects across multiple environments.
  • Develop automated workflows and storyboards within multiple environments (SES.3 level).
  • Provide technical assistance and training to users and ISSOs/ISSE's (SES.3 level).
  • Lead cyber-security related projects (SES.3 level).

Requirements

  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance from another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer and Network Security, Engineering, Business, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in editing and testing system security plans.
  • Experience with cyber-related tools for auditing, compliance verification, and vulnerability testing.
  • Ability to set priorities and solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with computer security practices and procedures.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration and documentation.
