About the position

The Cybersecurity Analyst - Privacy position at the City of Austin focuses on promoting and supporting the city's Information Security and Privacy Programs. The role involves designing, implementing, maintaining, and enforcing citywide privacy controls to ensure the safety of technology assets and data. The analyst will also resolve cybersecurity or privacy-related incidents and assist in the development of policies and procedures related to information security and privacy.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve cybersecurity or privacy related incidents.
  • Serve as primary system administrator for information security or privacy systems, applications, or tools as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of business needs; prioritize information and privacy, security, and risk mitigation and controls to accomplish business objectives.
  • Work on a variety of moderately complex analytical and technical assignments; assist in the design and documentation of information security or privacy policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Support information security and privacy controls effectiveness by evaluating results and developing action plans for vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, process, and policy audits.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation; document incident management activities, e.g., time spent, actions taken, and status of incident.
  • Assist in moderate to complex cybersecurity or privacy tasks to ensure the safety of technology assets and data.
  • Manage information security or privacy controls to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction.
  • Facilitate information security and privacy awareness training and mentoring throughout the user community as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field plus two years of related experience.
  • Graduation with a Master's degree may substitute for experience up to two years.
  • Experience may substitute for education up to four years.
  • Industry certifications may be considered as a substitution for education up to two years.

  • Ability to handle varying workloads and provide assistance to other individuals/groups as needed.
  • Thorough knowledge of business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Experience with Office 365, Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft tools.
