These roles are part of the DHS Cybersecurity Service (DHS-CS), which employs a multi-phase assessment process to qualify applicants. The DHS offers a variety of Cybersecurity Engineering opportunities across its various offices, including the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans (PLCY), the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). As a member of the Development Track at the Associate Cybersecurity Specialist level, employees will engage in continuous learning activities to enhance their expertise in Cybersecurity Engineering. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of cybersecurity initiatives, conducting reviews of security capabilities, researching current technologies, and identifying significant cybersecurity challenges. Employees will apply various cybersecurity functions, engage with systems architects and developers, and conduct risk analyses to develop and refine recommendations for functional requirements and customer specifications. This position is designed for individuals with 3+ years of cybersecurity work experience, who are capable of performing routine tasks with significant supervision and guidance.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of cybersecurity initiatives and reviews of security capabilities used by DHS components.
- Research current technologies to understand capabilities of required systems or networks, proactively identifying significant cybersecurity challenges.
- Apply cybersecurity functions such as encryption, access control, and identity management to propose solutions that reduce exploitation opportunities.
- Engage with and support systems architects and developers to develop and design solutions as needed.
- Conduct risk analyses, feasibility studies, and trade-off analyses to develop, document, and refine recommendations for functional requirements and customer specifications.
Requirements
- 3+ years of cybersecurity work experience.
- Ability to serve as a cybersecurity professional with some experience and apply technical expertise to perform routine work with significant supervision and clear guidance.
