About the position

The University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) is seeking adjunct faculty to teach in the School of Cybersecurity & Information Technology. This position is specifically for teaching various courses related to Cybersecurity Technology, including Introduction to Linux, Ethical Hacking, Switching, Routing, and Wireless Essentials, Managing Modern Microsoft Desktops, Managing Microsoft 365 Identity, Penetration Testing and Cyber Red Teaming, Managing Security on Modern Microsoft Desktops, Threat Management and Vulnerability Assessment, and Cybersecurity Technology Capstone. The adjunct faculty will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in both online and hybrid formats, engaging students through interactive learning experiences, and providing constructive feedback on student performance. The role requires faculty to actively engage students through frequent interaction, motivating them to succeed and conveying enthusiasm for their learning. Faculty will guide students in collaborative learning and apply their knowledge in problem- and project-based scenarios. Additionally, they will demonstrate subject-matter expertise, help students connect concepts across their academic program, and provide feedback to program chairs on potential curricular improvements. The position is part-time and located in Shady Grove, MD, with a hybrid teaching model that includes both online and onsite instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Cybersecurity Technology, including but not limited to Introduction to Linux, Ethical Hacking, and Penetration Testing.
  • Engage students through frequent interaction and motivate them to succeed.
  • Guide students in collaborative learning and problem-based projects.
  • Provide constructive feedback on student work and acknowledge their accomplishments.
  • Demonstrate current subject-matter expertise and help students connect concepts across their academic program.
  • Provide feedback to program chairs on curricular improvements.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Active and current Linux+/LPIC-1 certification.
  • Professional experience in Computer Networking and Security.
  • Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
